3 Secret Weapons in Selling
I had the pleasure of attending a Competitive Edge Seminar this week which featured Orvel Ray Wilson the author of Guerilla Selling, Negotiating, and more. No matter how many sales training I go to I always relearn the basics. The funny thing is I think we all need a refresher in the basics. During Orvel’s presentation he spoke about “Secret Weapons” and how to stand out here are three secret weapons that could be useful in your business.
3 Secret Weapons in Business:
1. Do the Unexpected
Sometimes doing the unexpected is doing your homework. When is the last time a potential vendor came to a meeting with you knowing everything about you? The internet is a powerful tool and it can make you stand out. Take 15 minutes and research your client before meeting with them. Believe it or not this is the unexpected. This has been a very powerful tool for me.
2. Tell the Truth
Being honest will get you a lot further in life than building yourself up on little white lies. If you don’t know the answer don’t give it your best shot. Honestly tell them you don’t know but when you get back to the office you will find out. You never know when you may have to eat your words later. It’s be to be resourceful than dishonest.
3. Personalize Everything
Orvel’s example was a note card with your picture in the top right hand corner. That is a good idea. Another idea would be to have all of your social media URL’s listed on your business card and ask your potential client to connect with you. They will be impressed by your tech savviness and now they will have a bigger picture of who you really are.
Like all good ideas, it is easier to take one idea and run with it. If I had to pick my favorite idea it would be #3. In this day and age leading the way with your best “socially” foot forward has a lot of creditability. I think it shows you have nothing to hide and you are up with the up and up! And it makes you just a little more hip…who doesn’t want to be more hip? Happy Selling!
