Is Direct Mail a thing of the past?
Lately I have come across people who think that Direct Mail is becoming a thing of the past. For some businesses I believe it may be a thing of the past depending on who their target market is and what direction they want to take their business. But for most businesses direct mail is a fundamental key component in helping them grow.
I do believe that the internet is leading the way with marketing and advertising. For most businesses though it is simply not enough. For instance, I have a potential client that delivers break time refreshments. Most businesses with an office do not know such a service exists. While it is key for Breaktime Refreshments to have a presence on the internet with their specific keywords to capture the clients that do know of them or think they may exist. It is also key for them to market to businesses that don’t know they exist.
Another business where I believe direct mail will always be necessary is real estate. Although lately I have come across some very internet savvy real estate agents they are very rare in their industry. Most real estate agents I meet with have a about a quarter of their sphere of influences email addresses and they are just now starting to realize how to leverage social media outlets to promote their business. On average a potential buyer or seller knows at least 3 real estate agents. With a statistic like that the only way you can capture their business is by staying in touch with them on a consistent basis. And in my opinion direct mail is the best way to do that.
I also believe that you can add value to your clients through direct mail. Let them know the latest events happening in and around Denver or wonderful places to see in Colorado. There are ways to promote your business and add value to your potential clients at the same time.
So in conclusion for most businesses direct mail is not a thing of the past. But for the savvy businesses owners that know how to leverage the internet to its fullest extent it may be.
