It’s Twitter, Not Rocket Science

On several occasions in the past month I have been with friends and family and inevitably the subject of Twitter comes up.  People are generally perplexed about what it is and how it works, particularly for business.  I think the easiest and most succinct way to describe Twitter is a “micro blog”.  It is 140 characters about what is on your mind and what is happening in your world.  If the group I am with can get that concept down, the next questions is, “why in the world do people care what I am doing?”.  Now, there are people who might care what Ashton Kutcher and Ellen DeGeneres are doing every minute of every day.  However, for most of us, the only person that is interested in a play by play of our day, is our Mom, and even that is a bit questionable.  For business purposes, Twitter is not so much “what are you doing right now”  but “what is catching your attention in your industry”.   It is up to the minute news and information.  Trish Moore, Marketing Director & Owner of With Ease Marketing identified her key words, sent approximately 35 “tweets” consistently over a period of several weeks, and now ranks Number One on Google with her key words.  Not a bad ranking, for a start-up marketing firm, in business less then a year.  So, Twitter is not as perplexing and difficult to grasp as rocket science.  It is a quick, easy business tools to promote yourself as an industry expert in 140 characters or less.
